Understanding your experience and relationships
You may seek psychotherapy because of a specific difficulty, distress that persists, or a wish to better understand what you are experiencing. Sometimes you recognise patterns that repeat in your relationships; at other times, it can be hard to find words for what is happening.
The work begins with your experience and what brings you to seek help. We explore how your history, relationships and sense of yourself connect with your current difficulties.
A process built between two people
Psychotherapy develops through the relationship between you and your therapist. Paying attention to what is said, what is difficult to express, and what happens in that relationship is part of the work.
This process calls for involvement from both of you. Building trust, deepening your understanding of yourself, and working with that understanding take time and continuity. We aim to help you become more aware of your experience and better able to make choices.
Reasons for seeking therapy
Reasons for seeking therapy may include anxiety, panic, depression, low self-esteem, feelings of emptiness, grief, loneliness, questions of identity, and difficulties in relationships or sexuality.
You do not need to arrive with an explanation for how you feel. The initial assessment gives us an opportunity to explore what concerns you and consider whether the therapy we offer is appropriate for your situation.
Who we work with
Gonçalo Neves works with people from adolescence onwards. Filipa Neves works with people of all ages.
In child psychotherapy with Filipa Neves, the therapeutic process focuses on one child and also involves the parents. It is an ongoing process, distinct from parenting consultations, which are for parents only.
Getting started
The initial assessment may take up to three sessions. We seek to get to know you, understand what you are looking for and consider whether we can help. We discuss our understanding with you and, where continuing is appropriate, propose a direction for the therapeutic work.
Sessions last 45 minutes and cost €80 each, including assessment sessions. Psychotherapy takes place at least weekly, at a regular day and time.
Sessions in person and online, in Portuguese and English.
